Building a Family

If you’re not married and expecting a baby, this special program can help you and your partner prepare for this exciting change in your lives. Starting a family can be stressful, even under the most ideal conditions.

This free program is designed to help you get off to a great start. First, you’ll attend a free, eight hour Relationship Seminar. Then there are other programs you can participate in as well, including financial management assistance, employment services programs, community referrals and conflict resolution assistance.

Conflict Resolution Coaching: You and your partner can receive personal coaching and learn skills to help you work as a team to get to the heart of problems and solve them. You’ll also learn how to manage conflicts while still preserving and enhancing your love, commitment and friendship. You’ll get up to three hours of coaching by an educator, coach or counselor who is trained in the PREP® and/or PREPARE/ENRICH® conflict resolution tools and techniques. Meetings are scheduled wherever and whenever it is convenient for participants.

Community Referrals: As part of the Building a Family program, you and your partner can also take advantage of some community programs that can help you:

  • Learn about employment services programs that can help you effectively search for a job, identify opportunities and maximize job performance.
  • Learn about community programs that can help you, your family and your baby thrive.

Financial Management Assistance:
Additionally, if you and your partner need help with managing your finances, you can receive up to six free hours of Financial Management Assistance. This counseling helps you: 

  • Reduce financial stress in your family.
  • Learn how to build a family budget.
  • Learn the facts about credit, and how to avoid the pitfalls.
